2. Secure IP Fax – A New Standard Approach

Secure IP Fax – A New Standard Approach. Presented by James Rafferty, Human Communications.

Service Providers have been implementing T.38 as an efficient way to transport fax over the Internet and also tie back into the legacy T.30 fax network. But the most common transport for T.38 – UDPTL – has not had any way of securing the transmission to prevent intruders from snooping on fax messages or even corrupting the fax content. With the increased popularity of T.38, this needs to change. There is a pending IETF standards proposal which will provide a security solution for UDPTL. In this presentation, we’ll review the security threats to IP fax and discuss how the proposed solution will address them.
