Virginia Tech is the administrative home of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI). CCI is Virginia’s main access point for cybersecurity research, innovation, and workforce development. Virginia Tech is the host for the xG Lab, an Open RAN Open Test and Integration Center, which can issue Open RAN certification for network equipment providers. Virginia Tech and other CCI colleges and universities host literally all types of communications laboratories and perform research that includes fundamental LTE (4G), 5G, and leadership in 6G standards. Nodes have expertise in wireline networks, enterprise networks, operational technology, military networks, etc.
