SIP Trunking Interoperability, Security and SIP-IPv6 Deployment Challenges Headline Agenda at SIPNOC US 2012

SIP Forum’s annual conference, June 25-27, 2012, to provide key educational and networking opportunities for telecom operators and carrier technical personnel

North Andover, Mass. (May 24, 2012) – SIP trunking interoperability, security, and SIP- IPv6 deployment challenges are several of the agenda topics at SIPNOC US 2012, the two-day conference presented by the SIP Forum for service provider engineering and technical staff that is taking place June 25-27 at the Hyatt Dulles Hotel in Herndon, VA. Now in its second year, SIPNOC US 2012 is a unique educational conference for international telecom stakeholders responsible for the deployment, management and ongoing operation of SIP-based services in service provider networks.

The preliminary SIPNOC US 2012 conference schedule, released today, features presentations, speeches and panels by representatives of leading international wireline and broadband service providers, government officials and academic researchers. Speakers will explore critical “real-world” service provider challenges related to SIP applications and infrastructure, including: network security, SIP trunking, testing and application development, Fax over IP, call routing and peering, IPv6, troubleshooting and monitoring, emergency services and more.

“This year’s conference line-up is designed to build on the conversation started at last year’s inaugural SIPNOC by some of our industry’s brightest technical minds,” said Marc Robins, SIP Forum President and Managing Director. “We believe the presentations will be insightful and educational for conferees; we also hope they will spur interesting discussions and the free exchange of ideas, ultimately leading to tangible progress that positively impacts global service provider SIP deployments.”

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Henning Schulzrinne will present the SIPNOC US 2012 keynote address. A principal architect of the SIP standard, Schulzrinne has published more than 250 journal and conference papers and more than 70 Internet Requests for Comment (RFCs), helping to shape and formulate key protocols for enabling voice-over-IP (VoIP), such as SIP, into Internet Standards.

Registration for SIPNOC US 2012 remains open at http://www.regonline.com/sipnocus2012.

SIPNOC US 2012 attendees will include telecommunications providers, major backbone operators, interconnect and wholesale solution providers, ISPs, cable operators, wireless network operators and representatives of large enterprises deploying major SIP initiatives. While the international carrier and service provider community is the primary audience for SIPNOC US 2012, industry stakeholders involved in major SIP initiatives, such as network equipment vendors, government agency representatives, large enterprise network operators and academic researchers are also encouraged to attend.

The SIP Forum is internationally recognized for developing important educational events surrounding SIP. The organization’s SIPit series of interoperability testing events regularly provides a test bed for SIP-based applications and equipment that has been heralded as critical for new product and services development. The SIP Forum also hosts committees and task groups comprised of industry experts examining a myriad of SIP-related topics, including SIP use in smart grid installations, FoIP, video and user-agent configuration.

About the SIP Forum

The SIP Forum is an IP communications industry association that engages in numerous activities that promote and advance SIP-based technology, such as the development of industry recommendations, the SIPit interoperability and testing events, special interoperability workshops, educational seminars, and general promotion of SIP in the industry. One of the Forum's notable technical activities is the development of the SIPconnect Technical Recommendation -- a standards-based recommendation that provides detailed guidelines for direct IP peering and interoperability between IP PBXs and VoIP service provider networks. The SIPconnect Compliant Certification Program is an associated program through which eligible companies can gain SIPconnect validation and the right to license the use of the SIP Forum's 'SIPconnect Compliant' certification mark -- the official brand of the leading standard for SIP Trunking products and services. Other important Forum initiatives include work in Fax-over-IP interoperability, User Agent Configuration, video interoperability, SIP and IPv6, and the opportunities for SIP in Smart Grid deployments.
