SIPNOC 2015: The SIP Network Operators Conference
“Making SIP Work in the Network”
Hilton Washington Dulles Hotel , Herndon, VA -- June 23-25, 2015
Presented by the SIP Forum, the leading industry association focused on the advancement of IP communications products and services based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), the fifth annual SIPNOC conference is a unique event for service providers and carriers to gather to discuss the challenges of deploying and implementing SIP-based communications technology, and to learn the best-practices and strategies that enable the successful and profitable operation of SIP-based services and applications. Distinguishing the event from other industry conferences, SIPNOC 2015 is not a sales event, a marketing event, nor an event for corporate positioning.
In order to make travel to SIPNOC 2015 from points in Europe as well as locations in the United States as convenient as possible, the SIP Forum will be hosting SIPNOC 2015 in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area at the Hilton Washington Dulles Hotel in Herndon, Virginia, just a few minutes from Dulles airport.
The dates for SIPNOC 2015 are confirmed for Tuesday, June 23 - Thursday, June 25, 2015.
For travel planning purposes, you should plan to arrive at the venue on Monday, June 22. The new training day being offered at this year's event will start promptly the morning of Tuesday, June 23rd.
The SIPNOC Program Committee ensures that the SIPNOC 2015 agenda is built by a panel of operational experts and presented in a setting that will encourage the meaningful exchange of day-to-day operational experiences.
The program committee reviewed workshop topic proposals and draft presentations, helping to ensure that the resulting discussions focus on implementation experiences and best practices relating to deploying SIP in the network.
The official SIPNOC 2015 Call For Presentations has been published and contains specific timelines and deadlines for submissions, and well as the various policies that govern the selection of content for the conference.
By popular demand, the SIP Forum has added a special, new workshop to the SIPNOC agenda. For this year's SIPNOC, we've teamed up with Mark Lindsey and the team at ECG to offer a special full day of specialized SIP training. This new SIP Training Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2015, and is designed to offer SIPNOC 2015 attendees relevant training on the SIP protocol, as well as provide insights and considerations related to a variety of technical implementations. Ultimately, the goal of this special training workshop is to help ensure that SIPNOC attendees get the most out of the technical presentations that follow over the next two days.
In contrast to video training and online courses available elsewhere, during the SIP Training Day at SIPNOC 2015 you'll be working with experienced trainers who build, improve, and debug VoIP systems every day.
At the SIPNOC 2015 SIP Training Day, you’ll be able to brush up on the essentials of VoIP Network Operation. ECG's training will deliver insights from the trenches of Interop troubleshooting and the network engineering of the boardroom. Instead of a rehearsal of IETF RFCs, you'll see how VoIP is really done in live networks, today.
SIPNOC 2015 Training Day Topics Include:
SIP Call Control. How do calls get started? How are they changed? How is the codec negotiated? How is incompatibility worked out?
Session Border Controllers. When are these devices used? How does an SBC improve security? How does NAT interfere with normal VoIP? How does an SBC solve the NAT Traversal problem for VoIP? How is SIP Trunking and Carrier Peering Established? How can audio and video be improved by an SBC?
VoIP Media. How is audio and video encoded for transmission? What are codecs, and how are they selected? What is RTP? What is a jitter buffer, and what problems can it solve? How does Network congestion and QoS affect the user experience?
VoIP/IMS Network Components. What are the common equipment and terms you'll find used in VoIP/IMS networks? Which components are often combined? How do component failures affect ongoing phone calls?
The Future for VoIP Networks. What are the open challenges in most VoIP networks? What are the trends coming from software and hardware vendors? How does SDN and NFV affect network growth? How do you prepare to support VoLTE, and IPv6?
An added bonus: All training day participants will receive a hardcover training manual with detailed notes and diagrams covering all of the Training Day's topics.
SIPNOC 2015 will focus on issues critical to the reliable and successful deployment and operation of SIP-based services in today’s IP-based network environment.
SIPNOC 2015 will feature an agenda over the course of three days that includes a special SIP training day on the first day of the event, and a combination of special presentations and panel discussions during the conference’s general session on the following two days -- an agenda designed to address the most important topics for today’s network operator.
Workshops, BOFs and Sessions will focus on topics such as:

SIPNOC is being developed as an educational conference for technologists and engineers within the operator community to share ideas, experiences (both good and bad) and best practices in a private setting. As a result, the SIP Forum has decided not to issue credentials for media and analysts to attend the conference, and as a result SIPNOC conference sessions will be closed to media and analysts.
It is our hope that our SIPNOC conferees will appreciate this decision, and that our friends in the press and analyst community -- those that have supported the SIP Forum with their coverage of our activities over the years -- will understand the rationale that went into making this decision.
SIP Forum representatives and select speakers will be available for interviews and briefings following the conference upon request, as well as various content that emerges from the conference proceedings.
For more information about this policy, please feel free to contact Marc Robins, SIP Forum Managing Director, at
