Working Group CharterThe Service Provider Working Group (SP-WG) operates in support of the community of carriers and service providers that now offer (or may be offering) packet-based real time communications services based on SIP. This community includes incumbent and competitive carriers, wireless, cable operators, and ISPs. The SP-WG will also act as a consultative body for questions raised by other working groups. The SP-WG performs this support by focusing on service-related questions such as network architectures, element, network and applications management, billing, numbering plans, peering, operational measurements, service quality and security. The SP-WG's specific role includes informing, facilitating discussions about, defining and promoting revenue-generating convergent services capabilities that leverage the Session Initiation Protocol. The Working Group produces and issues documents detailing such requirements. Together with the SIP Forum Marketing WG, the SP-WG will promote the value of SIP services to the global user community and foster a supportive environment within the Carrier and Service Provider domain. Participation in the Working GroupSP-WG is currently restricted to Full and Participant Members working for carriers and services providers. The SP-WG has the option to invite other SIP Forum members or non-member experts to join the SP-WG on a temporary or permanent basis. According to the SIP Forum by-laws only Full Members are allowed to use company information in the working group. If you are a SIP Forum member and would like to participate in the Carrier and Service Providers Work Group, please subscribe to the mailing list as indicated above. OperationsThe SP-WG will meet on a periodic basis both virtually as well as face-to-face when appropriate. Working meetings will be restricted to approved Carrier and Service Provider group members. Working documents of the group may be restricted to group participants. General summaries concerning the activities of the group will be presented and made available in open forum meetings such as the annual General Meeting. The SP-WG follows the IETF methodology in documenting and communicating requirements for SIP services.
